Ballet

Ballet is a type of performance dance that originated in the Italian Renaissance courts in the 15th century and later developed into a concert dance form in France and Russia. It is characterised by grace, precision, and an emphasis on technique, as well as the use of pointe shoes for female dancers. Ballet is typically performed in classical music and has a formalised style that includes specific steps, poses, and movements. It is often performed in a theater setting and is considered a form of high art.

Ballet is a great form of exercise that can improve your strength, flexibility, and posture. It can also be a fun way to express yourself and gain a sense of accomplishment as you learn new movements and choreography. Additionally, ballet can help with coordination, balance, and grace. Furthermore, ballet can also be beneficial for stress relief and has great cultural significance.

Modern

In the early 20th century, modern dance emerged as a form of concert dance that opposed the rigid conventions of classical ballet. It prioritises the expression of the dancer’s feelings and movements rather than conforming to a prescribed choreography or technical steps. Modern dance incorporates features from other forms of movement, including floor work and improvisation. As a contemporary dance genre, it is performed on stage and has led our dancers to secure positions as commercial backing dancers on popular TV shows like X factor and Britain’s Got Talent.

Modern dance is a form of self-expression and can be a fun and creative way to stay active and fit. It also allows for a greater range of movement and can help improve flexibility and coordination. Additionally, it is an art form that encourages individuality and personal interpretation, which can be a liberating and empowering experience.

Tap

Tap dance is a type of dance characterised by the use of tap shoes, which have small metal plates on the heel and toe. Dancers wear these shoes and create rhythms and beats by striking the floor with their feet. Tap dance has its roots in various types of dance, including African rhythms and Irish step dance. It has evolved over time to include a variety of styles, such as Broadway tap, rhythm tap, and hoofing.

Tap dancing is good because it provides a fun and engaging way to exercise, improves coordination and rhythm, and can also be a form of self-expression and artistic expression. Additionally, it has been used as an educational tool for children to improve their focus, discipline, and confidence.

Lyrical

Lyrical dance is a style of dance that combines elements of ballet and jazz dance. It is characterised by fluid, flowing movements and is often performed to music with lyrics, hence the name “lyrical.” The dance style is known for its expression of emotion through movement and is often used to interpret the lyrics and meaning of a song. It is a common style in contemporary dance and competitions.

Lyrical dance emphasises the fluidity of movement. It is considered good because it allows dancers to express themselves, and also helps to improve strength, flexibility, and control. Additionally, it can be a great workout for the body and mind.

Street Dance

Street dance is a style of dance that originated in urban communities, often performed in outdoor spaces such as streets, sidewalks, and parks. It encompasses a wide range of styles and techniques, including hip-hop, breaking, popping, and locking. Street dance is typically characterised by its improvisational nature and its focus on the individual dancer’s expression and style. It has also become a competitive dance form with many competitions and battles being held worldwide.

Street dance is often seen as a way to stay physically fit and develop coordination and rhythm. Many people choose street dance for its versatility and its ability to be performed in various settings, including on the street, in clubs, or in performance spaces.
